FreeO2

Principles and Advantages

FreeO2TM is an innovative device born from years of research aimed at improving oxygen therapy. OxyNov’s pioneering spirit led to the creation of this revolutionary device for respiratory care.

The FreeO2 device lets clinicians set target saturations (SpO2), then automatically titrates patients’ oxygen flow and weans them as needed. By continuously and automatically adjusting each patient’s oxygen flow, the FreeO2 accounts for individual needs and response dynamics to help them remain within the target SpO2 set by the clinician. The FreeO2 operates on a closed-loop principle. Supplied by an oxygen source, it continuously measures the patient’s oxygen saturation (SpO2), then quickly and precisely adjusts the O2 flow rate until the patient is fully weaned.

Why Choose FreeO2

The first device of its kind, the FreeO2 lets clinicians set target saturations (SpO2),

then automatically administers and titrates patients’ oxygen flow and weans them as needed.

CONTINUOUS MONITORING OF OXYGEN SATURATION

The FreeO2 device operates on a closed-loop principle. Supplied by an oxygen source, it continuously measures the patient’s oxygen saturation (SpO2), then quickly and precisely adjusts the O2 flow rate as needed.

AUTOMATIC TITRATION AND WEANING

By setting a target saturation (SpO2) for your patient, the FreeO2 strives to meet that target moment by moment by  titrating the oxygen flow accordingly, accounting for their individual needs and changing conditions.

TRENDING FUNCTIONS: TRACK YOUR PATIENT’S PROGRESS

FreeO2 has both a trending feature and the ability to export data from your patient’s course of care.  Tracking trends of SpO2’s and oxygen flow rate between 1 and 72 hour timelines helps you take the guess work of how your patient’s oxygenation needs are trending and assists with a more data driven report at shift handoff.

29%1 SHORTER HOSPITAL STAYS

When tested on patients hospitalized for an exacerbation of COPD, the FreeO2 made it possible to reduce the length of hospital stays by 29%2 (6.7 days compared with 9.5 days).

50%2 LESS OXYGEN REQUIRED

With bulk oxygen costs rising since the COVID pandemic, the impact to hospital budgets is real.  One study in the Journal of Critical Care showed that FreeO2 use reduced oxygen consumption by as much as 50% vs. titration with a manual flowmetre. Saving on bulk oxygen has both an economic and sustainability impact, while still effectively treating our patients.

OPTIMZED WEANING HITS THE TARGET 90%3 OF THE TIME

With FreeO2 continuously monitoring our patient’s SpO2’s with the goal of hitting a target saturation , weaning happens when the patient is clinically ready, not based on a clinician’s rounds schedule.  Studies done with FreeO2 show patients hit the set target saturation up to 90% of the time. That means less time under or over oxygenated and all the clinical impacts that can bring, making FreeO2 safer for patient care and creating clinician workflow efficiencies with optimized weaning.
